New technology within a culture (END)

Computer, mostly the internet, as I see it has influence us the most. Computers tend to provide us more on both entertainment and knowledge as well. People nowadays don't go around much searching for information as they can just surf the internet. With just a click away, we can get information almost about anything, anytime. This has made us human to live in an unhealthy lifestyle by not having to move much doing things anymore. Communicating with others through instant messaging has become a common trend. Though it is true that it makes us easier to meet one another whether their near or far and that this service is free, it has made life conversation not so interesting
There are many possibilities to reshape the culture today with new technology. Communicating with others has become much easier whether they're close or far. Though we can't meet them in person, at least we are able to maintain our relationship with others.
With this week's lecture, I think its fun and all that technology really make our lives easier, but I don’t mind with having to do things manually for a while. If I were to manage all my daily things by technology like what was shown in this week’s class, then I’ll get bored with life itself. ^_^

Media Imperialism based on "The Power of Nightmares"

Media Imperialism is when a powerful/wealthy country dominates the media worldwide and end up other country to follow them. Based on a documentary entitle "The Power of Nightmares", we can see clearly how America, who control the media worldwide, made other country thinks that there is a large terrorist group is out there to destroy humanity. The US makes the whole wide world into thinking that there is a terrorist group on the loose, to destroy the world, while this whole thing is just made up by certain politicians. The politicians’ main intention is to restore their power by earning the trust of the people around the world. Entrusting that they (the politicians’), can save the world from this horrible threat. But in reality, the treat that was just an illusion and that they have succeeded in bringing the world into utter chaos. People were so concerned about this is because, if it’s something shown in America, many believe it is right.

The effects of TV base media by the 'Tetrad of Media' theory

The effects of media when shown on television is that TV enhance visual images and audio which attracts more attention and mostly people understand the message better this way. Obsolete, what the medium (or in this case the TV) drives out of prominence is in the early years is radios and newspapers. TV lessen the importance of text usage and gives out visual content in addition to sound. Retrieval, retrieve what previous medium that which are lost. Like we discuss in this week lecture, TV does not only reduce radio listeners, it also revives the concept that we use when using a radio. People from time to time listen more to the TV then watch it, notice most people like to set the volume high or nobody will bother to watch a 'silent' (muted) TV. This brings back the radio back to life. Lastly reversal is what the medium does when pushed to its limits. TV influence people more than trusting others, it puts a sense or feel that they're inside the world the TV speaks of.

Obscenity is often words or context to express and offend others by using words for sexual harassment
Whereas Indecency is when a person describe or expose on TV of sexual or improper doing's could consider as "indecent," even though the program or ad took that various part and not the whole body.
Pornography is the exposure of one's sexual subject matter with only one intention of giving viewers arousing sexually imagery.

What is Media Literacy and why is it important for FCMs

Media literacy is a way to study and evaluate, creating a message in a wide variety of media modes, genres or forms. It is a way to help people analyze a message to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news, story and public affairs.
Media literacy is important to FCM students so that we can promote, produce ideas for the public. This is so that we know how and what the viewers want. If we don't study or take note on what is media literacy, we will be creating things that will amuse ourselves; we will be selling our ideas to ourselves. As an example, designers analyze what attracts the public/buyers eyes and desire. People nowadays want items that are up to the trend, curvy and light in weight, also something that is clear-view/transparent to give that spacey look. And from this, is up to the designers to take these desires into designing an item.

Media stereotype

From the article the writer explains that Media stereotypes are usually done to goof off with other people’s religious, country or community. They use what symbolizes a community and use it to make fun of them, examples are like if an Arabian, the character will have a beard and if they were Jews they would have a funny accent. It is shown off mostly where we least expect. From movies, most viewers will notice the aspect of racism if it was presented and this is because most movies are for teenagers or adults. But if racism was shown in cartoons people will not have notice much. This is because the viewers are mostly children where they don't know or understand racism much. Other than that stereotype that’s shown in cartoons isn’t much noticeable or it may be because it’s in a form of cartoon and people tend to not take this issue seriously. This is maybe why they put in a form of cartoon, so that they (the producer) can make fun of others while people not realizing it. But it may be also to put young children in mind what are other people like. With this they can influence the children easier to hate those people or like them. The cartoons that was mention in the article is most of all stereotype media that I've seen only I didn't realize this at ALL until I read the article. There were some, not many movie (maybe I didn't realize) I've seen that were stereotype. But the one cartoon that are for adults that is guarantee as a stereotype media is Simpson.

Introduction to Mass Communication: Media Literacy and Culture

Well trusting on the web put a bit more of the unbelievable side, as newspaper is hard to believe nowadays, I would have to say no, not to believe. If we were to take true information is by going to whom or wherever we want to investigate, even so we will most probably get 50% or less information that is true. Because the web is to me considered less believable is that because anyone can edit it. A way to solve this problem is by taking a bit of info from this site and compare it with other websites to see whether the information matches or not. Websites like 'Wikipedia' is one of the least trusting sites because anyone can edit it, but because the editor USUALLY leaves their source of information and that it is controlled by a group of people who would stop from false information, it is a bit trusting. Though we trust them 100 or even 50% that the information written down is true, at least we get some information on what are we're studying on and besides, we check if that info is true or not by asking others or do research on books officially for that certain someone or something that we're studying on. I know one thing, nowadays it's hard to know the truth even in local newspaper, the only way is by comparison with multiple sources, and the truth will bound to show up.

how social media effect our life

There are sooo many ways media effects our lives. It is media that evolve to humans like today. It started of with news from newspaper, news from spreading wide without others having to travel much to get a bit of info. Even from this it has changed the human life by us not to travel around much and made us a bit lazy. Futhermore it made us took the easy way by letting us believe what they record is true. But on the bright side, it made those hard to go around anywhere easier by bringing them useful information. Today, newspaper are least effective due to today's technology such as television radios and the top contributer, the internet. With these device media can affect us more by bringing visual and sound content. For example when we watch news on television it is more believing than reading in newspaper as in television they provide us images as well to prove their statement.

personal reflection on media culture

Media culture is to me, a bit interesting (though not all), but most of it is
The interesting part is when I realised that most of what was taught has happened in real life. Plus, we were to know more about the tricks and turns in a psycology matter with other people. Also through learning this subject I now see the effect of ones' doing by using mostly their mind and not much on will.
